In my opinion the combination of bright pink peonies and succulents will never go out of style. Bouquets and Bowties crafted a colorful wedding at McLeod Plantation for Charleston couple Baylye and Aaron. With a nod to tradition the mother of the bride’s milk glass collection was used throughout the decor and a sense of freshness was infused with bright peonies, eucalyptus, and succulents. Alex Thornton Photography captured every detail of the day to perfect from the bride’s blush gown to the couples sweet magnolia tree ceremony. How did you meet? Aaron and I are from the same small hometown of LaFayette, GA. We never really connected until college when we decided to go for dinner and movie. We basically giggled and had googly eyes for each other the entire time, and we still do! We don’t really have a super romantic meeting story, but it was definitely love at first sight! If we’re not laughing and picking on each other, we’re sleeping.
What is your proposal story? Aaron proposed to me on August 21, 2017 during the Solar Eclipse in Charleston! Definitely a once in a lifetime moment of pure bliss! We kayaked to the beach from Grice Marine Lab with my friend Rachel in tow. Just before totality, Rachel offered to take some pictures of us out on the sandbar with the Ravenel bridge in the background. I knew something was fishy when Aaron grabbed my hand to hold on our way over and started squeezing it nervously. We struck a few classic couple poses, and then he hugged me and whispered in my ear that he loved me and didn’t want to live without me. He immediately got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. I screamed YES! I couldn’t see because my eyes were filled with tears and sunscreen. It was the happiest day of my life, besides our wedding!!
Tell us a little a bit about your wedding: SUPER cheesy, but when I envisioned my wedding, I saw something like the Twilight Saga wedding: Drippy trees, lots of flowers, and a statement gown! With my personality, the dress most certainly had to be blush pink! I wanted to compliment the pinky tones of bohemian chic with blue and green earthy tones of classic southern elegance. Complete with a flower crown and succulents everywhere as well as blue suits for the guys with sage ties to match the backdrop of those gorgeous live oaks. I dreamed of the dark stained farm tables with eucalyptus greenery and huge fluffy peonies, my favorite flower, sitting daintily in my mother’s milk glass vase collection. When choosing a venue, there had to be an “Avenue of Oaks”, hands down! McLeod Plantation on James Island was the perfect location on the water that didn’t cost a fortune. We live and breathe for James Island, and it was really important to us to show our friends and family what we love most about our Charleston home.
What were your favorite parts of the day? My favorite memory is seeing Aaron lose his cool when I walked down the aisle with both of my parents. There were so many tears! It was a truly magical and intimate experience. It started thundering during the ceremony, but it held off until cocktail hour where we were able to get the best couple shots in the rain while the sun was setting through the branches of the oaks. Aaron and I were pretty proud to show everyone our first dance, since we took lessons. The dips were SO exaggerated and everyone loved it! I designed our day-of materials myself, so it was really neat seeing the signs and program fans and knowing that they were exactly what I wanted; you can’t get more custom than that! We had the MacDaddy Food Truck cater the reception, so it was fantastic eating macaroni and cheese with fried chicken on top with the love of my life! It was THE perfect day.
