I’m kind of a banana bread fiend. So for my second Date Night Dinners post I knew I had to share my favorite banana bread recipe. With added chocolate chips this banana bread is the perfect breakfast or afternoon treat. Baking tends to scare most people and I understand how it can seem easier to just buy a boxed mix. But there’s nothing quite like warm, fresh baked bread that you made from scratch coming out of the oven. Smelling this bread in the house is a wonderful treat and is guaranteed to warm your spouses heart! My banana bread recipe contains an added dash of cinnamon and chocolate chips. The added chocolate chips are obviously a no brainer. The secret to any good banana bread recipe is old bananas. Let your bananas brown over a few days so that they get sweeter. I’m going to be honest here, smushing bananas is a pain. I use a fork but I’ve linked to a potato masher below that would speed up this process. In a large bowl cream together butter and sugars. Add eggs, vanilla and crushed bananas. Combine well. In a medium sized bowl mix together flour, baking soda, and spices. Add dry ingredients to wet and mix just until combined. Add 1/2 cup chocolate chips to your mix – or a little bit more if you’re naughty like me.
