I’ve always loved vintage cake toppers. Tucked away on a book shelf or sitting on your bedside table these porcelain figures are the perfect souvenir of your wedding day. It’s fun to look back at the different types of toppers throughout the decades and see the change in fashions and wedding trends. (Check out that yellow tux on the 80’s topper below!)
I did a little research and was surprised to find that cake toppers became the rage in 1840 when Queen Victoria’s royal baker chose to top her 300 lb. and 9 inch wide wedding cake with a sculpted scene including a bride and groom. Until that moment most couples were topping their confections with fresh flowers. Since then wedding cake toppers have provided a beautiful glimpse into wedding fashions and are an elegant way to top your cake with style.
When it comes time to pick your topper what will you choose? Vintage, personalized or no topper at all?
