Nestled on the coast of Massachusetts, The Crane Estate is like stepping back in time to an old world Italian villa. Quite possibly one of the most romantic venues we’ve ever seen stateside, it’s no wonder Laura and Ben chose this location for their summer nuptials. The bride and her twin sister carefully crafted a wedding that was intimate and infused with a lot of love. Sarah Jayne Photo captured this wedding day to perfection and you won’t want to miss the brides write up below which captures every sweet detail.
We rode up the river under the stars through this little channel and Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra played from the speakers as we sipped our champagne. I literally felt like I was dreaming. We made our way into the cute little cabin on the boat so we were alone and that’s when Ben got down on one knee! He told me how much he loved me and that the only thing missing in his life was making me his wife. He asked me to marry him and opened a ring box and there was my beautiful ring that he had secretly designed with a local jeweler back home. On our ride back, the timing was just so that the fireworks from all of the nearby Disney parks lit up the sky around us. He told me he had one more surprise and that we weren’t going back to stay with my family that night – he booked a room for us to stay at a resort close by. Being a twin, I couldn’t believe I had to keep the biggest secret of my life from my sister until we saw her again the next day! Ben didn’t want me to be suspicious earlier in the night, so he didn’t pack us anything for our stay, but managed to sneak a very special bottle of wine that I had picked up in Italy years before that I was saving to enjoy on the night we got engaged. Tell us a little a bit about your wedding: We got married on a pretty day when spring was turning into summer and the bluest skies looked over everything in bloom. Our ceremony took place in a garden nestled on the coast on the Crane Estate in Massachusetts. The garden was up on a hill that overlooked the surrounding marshes and was just a few steps from an old world Italian style barn where we held the reception. We loved how the barn was simple, yet rustic and felt like a blank canvas that we could turn into our sweet, romantic escape. The intimate and cozy feel was such a magical setting for us to come together with our closest family and friends. We chose farm tables so it would feel like we were all one big family on this night. Getting to see our vision come to life with twinkling candles up in the beams and flower garlands hanging all around was truly a dream come true. These seaside grounds have been the backdrop of many memories for the two of us over the years, so we are grateful to have continued our love story in such a beautiful place that means so much to us. Just down the hill from our ceremony was the beach where we spent many summer days in the sand dreaming of our wedding someday being on this property. It turns out dreams really do come true! What was the most important to the two of you while planning? The most important to the two of us while planning our wedding was putting “us” into every detail possible so that our family and friends could feel surrounded by our love on our wedding day. Make the planning feel just as special as your big day! This helped us to always stay excited and positive when the process could get a little stressful and always bring our focus back to what was truly important. We had so much fun finding vendors that embraced our vision and brought it to life in more beautiful ways than we could have imagined.
We really wanted it to feel like our dream come to life and let our love shine through. Ben’s 91 year old grandfather married us under a birch arbor that my dad built. We wrote each word of our ceremony ourselves so it was tailored to our own thoughts on love and marriage and how much it meant to share this day with the ones we love. We chose the score from one of our favorite movies to play as we were walking back down the aisle as husband and wife, and a cake flavor that was our personal favorite. The buses made a surprise stop to take our guests to our favorite pizza spot at the end of the night and then took everyone to where we had our first date for the after party. It was so amazing getting to experience all the pieces come together on our wedding day knowing all the memories we made through each step of the planning. Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Stay true to you. Ask yourselves as you are making each decision, “what will make us truly happy?” and forget the rest. Planning your wedding will come with so many options and opportunities to shape the day into your dream. Let it be your dream. It’s the one day of your life where it’s about your unique and special love, so remind yourselves of that. When your wedding day arrives, be in the moment and truly breathe in all of the magic as it is happening around you. It will feel so wonderful. Chances are, not everything is going to go perfectly as planned, so just roll with it. Everyone will have an amazing time and you’ll have wedding day stories to share forever!
