Allison and Mike chose the sprawling Castleton Farms located in Knoxville, Tennessee for their summer wedding. With acres of rolling greenery, the venue was ideal for the couples romantic Southern affair. Gold flecked linens and pink glassware lent a feminine touch to the reception while honey jelly favors provided a touch of local flair. Make sure to read the couples sweet story below and see all of the gorgeous photos captured by Amanda May Photos. How did you meet? Mike and I met during middle school, but we did not really get to know each other until he asked me to prom our Junior year of high school. We decided to start hanging out before prom so we could get to know each other before the big event and we haven’t stopped hanging out since! What is your proposal story? Mike and I dated long distance between Chattanooga, TN and Birmingham, AL throughout college and Chattanooga became one of our favorite places to meet on our weekends together. On Valentine’s day 2016 we spent an afternoon on the Southern Belle Riverboat. Fast-forward to February 2017 and Mike told me he found a great deal on tickets for the first weekend in February instead of Valentines day. I was excited and did not think anything of it.
While on the boat for the evening the Captain called us to his deck to discuss the validity of our tickets. We raced up to the Captain’s deck where my sister’s wedding photographer was snapping photos and a video camera was capturing us. Mike read to me from first Corinthians and proceeded to ask me to be his wife with the most beautiful ring he designed months earlier. I was thrilled and shocked! I thought the surprise was over but when we headed down for a private dinner on the boat, I walked into a room full of our friends and family! I burst into tears, gave hugs and laughed with them about the lies and games they had to play with me leading up to this moment. We had great night of pictures, food, gifts and a whole lot of love on one boat. What were your favorite parts of the day? My favorite moments from the day include our first look and the time Mike and I got to spend alone that day in between the ceremony and the reception. The first look was such a sweet moment we had waited on for years. I never thought I would be nervous on my wedding day but I was! I really wanted to do a first look for time sake, but I am so glad we did because as soon as I saw Mike I lost all my nerves and I got to enjoy the experience fully. We also timed the ceremony so we could get a few sunset pictures after, and we had so much fun posing for the camera! We just had fun playing around with the beautiful light from the sunset and celebrating the fact that we were officially and finally married!Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Our advice to couples planning their weddings now is to go to premarital counseling. It is a great opportunity to talk through things before you jump into marriage and get on the same page about things you never thought to talk about during your time dating. Even though we had dated a long time this was an amazing time for us as a couple and helped start our marriage out strong and understand each other better. Also, don’t forget to enjoy the process of wedding planning and the fun it can be and enjoy each season of life together.
