I came across this article in New York Magazine’s summer wedding guide and I thought it was too interesting not to repost! Writer Katherine Ward asked 100 recent brides what they would have done differently about their weddings and the answers are quite surprising. As a photographer I was very happy to see that the majority of brides wish they had spent more on their wedding photography. And even more wished their proposal had been professionally photographed! After all, when the cake is cut and the guests go home the only thing you’ll have left to remember the great party you’ve thrown, the details you painstakingly planned and the fabulous dress you wore are the pictures… and don’t you want those to be the best they can be?
The other surprising thing I noticed is that 84% of brides didn’t use a wedding planner, something I think is a mistake. Planing a wedding is a huge undertaking, something most people only do once in their lives while planners attend weddings every weekend. They know how to create a wedding day timeline (and stick to it) they also can help visualize your day so that all details, colors, etc. come together cohesively for a perfectly polished event. Even if you only hire a day of planner it can make a world of difference in the ease and enjoyment of your day.
